Learn more about the community-supported beekeeping model. This is what makes small-scale beekeeping socially and economically resilient!
What is Community-Supported Beekeeping (Andelsbirøkt)?
-
Andelsbirøkt is a membership-based model
- Members buy a share (of 30 shares in total), paying an upfront fee or instalments.
- The hives are maintained and cared for by an experienced beekeeper, so the primary responsibility lies with the beekeeper.
- This financial support helps the beekeeper cover operational costs before the season starts, and have a reliable income.
-
Regular shares of the harvest
- Members participate in, and receive equal shares of honey harvest throughout the season. The expected amount per member is 2.5-3.5 kg.
- Harvests take place end of june, july and august for capturing season’s various nectar flows.
-
A direct relationship between beekeeper and members
- Local Buzz creates a direct relationship between the beekeeper and members. Members participate in hive visits, volunteering, community events, and online interactions.
- This direct relationship and the members’ engagement is key to learning about pollinators, plants, honey production and nature-stewardship.
- This direct connection promotes transparency, trust, and a sense of community as members get to understand where their food comes from and how it’s produced.
- CSB is a great way to support local beekeepers, strengthen communities, and encourage environmentally conscious food choices.

Principles
Sustainable practices: Our practice is responsible to the environment, both for current and future generations, maintaining and promoting the health of ecosystems, and also is responsible to the beekeeper by providing a decent livelihood through a prepayment scheme.
Shared risk / shared abundance: Members share the abundance but also share the risk, meaning that everyone benefits when it’s a good season, and every.
Involvement of shareholders: Local Buzz facilitates the members to be part of the beekeeping by providing the necessary training, mentorship and supervision, thereby acting as a learning arena.
Dialogue: Local Buzz encourages members to ask questions about any aspect of the operations and the beekeeping practice of Local Buzz.
Transparent finances: At the end of the season, Local Buzz shares with the members the finances. This way, Local Buzz ensures that what members are paying through their memberships translates into a decent livelihood for the beekeeper.
