What does it mean to be a beekeeper in the city and what role do we play in the larger urban ecosystem?
Where does a beekeeper’s “farm” begin and end when the bees forage across an entire city? Starting with a jar of honey, we’ll ask who actually produces it: the beekeeper, the bees, the flowers or the city itself?
We’ll explore the relationships between bees, people and the landscapes we share, and perhaps rethink what it means to be a beekeeper in the city.
The talk takes place during Innhøstingsdag at Gartneriet på Bygdø Kongsgård. So if you’re coming to harvest vegetables, take a break from the fields and join us for a different look at urban food production.
Location: Gartneriet på Bygdø Kongsgård
Gartneriet is a centre for urban agriculture, education and hands-on learning, located within the historic farming landscape of Bygdø Kongsgård.
The site brings together vegetable, herb and berry gardens, fruit orchards, a plant nursery, composting areas, an apiary, wild habitats and a restaurant that serves produce grown on the farm. Here, food production, biodiversity and learning exist side by side.
Everything at Gartneriet is designed to be explored, experienced and shared.
